Bio

Milton Frederick “Toby” Fitch, Jr. is the son of the late Milton F. and Cora Whitted Fitch. He was born and reared in Wilson, North Carolina and attended the public school system graduating from Charles H. Darden High School. Furthering his education, he graduated from North Carolina Central University, Durham, North Carolina where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1969 and his Juris Doctorate in 1972 from North Carolina Central University School of Law. He is the proud father of Melanie Fitch and Milton Fitch, III.


He taught and coached football at North Carolina Central University and Delaware State College. In 1975, he was admitted to the North Carolina Bar and the District of Columbia Bar.


For Many years, Toby has devoted considerable skills and talents to serving the people of Wilson, Edgecombe and Nash Counties, and the State of North Carolina. He is a member of Mount Hebron Masonic Lodge #42 and a lifetime member of the NAACP.


Being actively involved in his community, he contributed from out-of-pocket expenses to the Youth Enrichment Program, Which allowed over 500 children to be fed daily. He consorted with the Hardees Corporation, which resulted in this company feeding these children. He was instrumental in getting children of Wilson County involved for the summer in the Upward Bound Program at Clark College, Atlanta, Georgia.


He has served nine terms as a member of House of Representatives in the State of North Carolina. He was the First African American in the State of North Carolina to preside over the House, the first Majority Whip and the first African American to be elected House Majority Leader.


Toby has served on various boards and commissions such as The Council of State Government Committee on Suggested State Legislation; Joint Selection State Health Insurance Committee; Joint Legislative Commission on Government Operations; State Personnel Study Committee as the Co-Chairman; Advisory Budget

Commission; Sub-Committee on Board of Awards; Court Case Disposition Committee; Workplace Safety Study Commission and several others.


Toby has received several awards such as the North Carolina AFL-CIO “A Friend of the Working People”, Youth for Social Change Award from Southerners, Community Service Award from North Carolina Association of Black Lawyers, Albert L. Turner Award from North Carolina Central University, Legislator of the year Award from North Carolina Association of Education Office Personnel, and was cited by the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf Foundation.


Toby was appointed Superior Court Judge of District 7B on December 29, 2001. He was recently elected as the Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge Jurisdiction of North Carolina, Incorporated.
His accomplishments are only surpassed by his dedication.

Daniel L. Thompson is a 1990 Distinguished Military Graduate, Cum Laude, of South Carolina State College  (now University), Orangeburg, SC. He is the son of Mrs. Jean V. Weathers of Columbia, SC and the late Daniel Thompson. He is the oldest of three children. Daniel is married to the former Sharon E. Grant of Sumter, SC. He is the proud father of three children; Jermaine, Cherise and Danielle. He has three grandchildren and three godchildren. Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Thompson retired from the United States Army on 31 December 2013. He served as an Intelligence Officer for Army and Joint Service Commands for commanders from the Battalion level to the 4-Star General level and commanded at the Company and Battalion level. He graduated and completed the Military Intelligence Officers Basic and Advance Courses; the Military Intelligence Electronic Warfare and Signals Intelligence School; The Command and General Staff College; the Army Force Management School; the Joint Forces Staff College; the U.S. Army Airborne School and the U.S. Army
Jumpmaster School.


LTC (R) Thompson’s military awards included the Legion of Honor Medal; the Meritorious Service Medal (4); Army Commendation Medal (7), Humanitarian Service Medal, War on Terrorism Medal, Overseas Medal (Numeral 2) and the Senior Parachutist Badge. In 2010, he was the recipient of the Military Intelligence Associations Knowlton Award. Daniel’s fraternal affiliations and service are numerous. He is a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, INC. He was the first Prince Hall Mason in the Jurisdiction of North Carolina elected
to the positions of Most Excellent Grand High Priest, Right Grand Thrice Illustrious Master and Right Eminent Grand Commander. Past Master Thompson currently serves as the Right Worshipful Junior Grand Warden for the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of North Carolina and its Jurisdictions, INC.. Past Commander in Chief Thompson is a 33rd Degree Mason who served on the Committee to write the history of the Prince Hall United Supreme Council, Southern Jurisdiction. Past Potentate Thompson is an Imperial Deputy Director for the AEAONMS Legion of Honor Department and Past Prior Thompson is the Jurisdictional Deputy for the Convent General, Knights York Cross of Honour.


Daniel’s personal motto is “My Brother’s Keeper.” In 2010 he founded and incorporated a foundation called “Don’t Talk Do, INC.” On 23 January 2014, Governor Steven L. Beshear of Kentucky commissioned Daniel a Kentucky Colonel. In March of 2015, Daniel was elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Central Children’s Home of North Carolina, INC. His hobbies include writing, researching history and listening to music. He is a member of First Baptist Church, 302 Moore Street, Fayetteville, North Carolina.
